The Experience Works Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides paid community service assignments at local public and non-profit organizations, training, referral to needed services and job search assistance. With updated skills, participants use their community service training as a springboard to permanent jobs with local employers.
Gateway to Discovery is a nonprofit organization that has established a two-year residential faith-based recovery program to support women in their rise from the depths of chemical addiction, homelessness and related struggles. It offers a long-term sanctuary as a haven from the social, psychological and economic factors that drive women to desperate means for survival–along with an array of support services and educational opportunities, at no cost to them. They learn social and other life skills crucial to maintaining sobriety and becoming independent contributing members of society. It is based on the simple premise that “Love Changes Lives.”
Goodwill provides both retail and mission services. Mission services in Fort Dodge include the Youth Employment Services (YES), Community Based Employment Services, and the Ticket-to-Work Program. Each program provides employment services to individuals with disabilities.
Opportunity Village, based in Clear Lake, provides and supports services to individuals with disabilities, of all ages, throughout northern Iowa. Northwoods Living, a service of Opportunity Village, concentrates on the Fort Dodge area. Additional services, such as the Children’s Autism Center, are available through Opportunity Village.
The Village General Store, a second-hand store, provides jobs and job training to people with disabilities, offers affordable clothing and household items for sale to the community, creates opportunities to serve through volunteerism and with non-cash contributions, generates needed revenue for Opportunity Village services, and increases awareness of Village services.
